Miss Sadie Thompson 3D Blu Ray 1953
The plot of the movie Miss Sadie Thompson 3D Blu Ray 1953
Rain, the theatrical play that John Colton made from W. Somerset Maugham's story about sex, sin and salvation in the tropics, returns to the screen in a third attempt. This time it's a modernized version with 3D and Technicolor. The production uses a real island and filming takes place in Hawaii, so that the viewer sees a sumptuous tropical spectacle. In this treatment, Sadie is a humble lady kicked out of a brothel in Hononlulu by Davidson, a man determined to take sin out of the islands. She dodges deportation to San Francisco, where she is wanted for another crime, and boards a ship for New Caledonia.En route, the ship is quarantined on an island occupied almost entirely by Marines. The dramatic pacing of Curtis Bernhard's direction reaches a frenzied jazz tempo that fits in with the modernisation, and for the most part the acting fits in nicely with that tempo, especially Rita Hayworth's. She captures the feeling of the title character well, even removes make-up, photographic costumes, to resemble the physical appearance of that quiet, unassuming lady that was Sadie Thompson. Less effective is José Ferrer in the role of Alfred Davidson, no longer a missionary fanatic, but a fanatic of a completely different kind. Absent in the modified play and religious fanaticism, which motivated and made intelligible the original Freudian character. Aldo Ray as Sergeant Oh Hara, the Marine who makes an honest woman out of Sadie, did a very good job in the movie Miss Sadie Thompson 3D.
