Because of the critical damage, the spaceship is forced to make an emergency landing on an uncharted planet, where its crew is embroiled in a conflict with a new ruthless enemy, who deservedly hates any representatives of the Federation.

After exhausting three years in deep space, the captain of the Enterprise James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) begins to doubt that he has chosen the right career. He submits a petition for transfer to headquarters work, but at this moment the Federation receives an SOS signal from an alien spacecraft. Only the Enterprise can save the astronauts in distress, and Kirk and his team rush to their last mission. As soon as the ship flies through the nebula that hides what happened to the aliens from the Cosmoflot scanners, the SOS turns out to be a trap, specially arranged for taking the Enterprise to the boarding. Earth weapons are useless against the weapons of the attackers, and the crew has to leave the wrecked ship and land on the planet where the villains' base is located.
