Monsters University 3D Blu Ray 2013

Monsters University 3D serves as a prequel to the beloved animated film Monsters Inc. 3D The story revolves around Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan, also known as Sulley, during their college years at Monsters University. 

At the university, Mike, an ambitious and studious young monster, dreams of becoming a top scarer, despite not being naturally scary. Sulley, on the other hand, comes from a prestigious family of scarers but relies more on his natural talent and charm. The two initially clash due to their different approaches to scaring. However, circumstances force them to team up with a group of misfit monsters to compete in the university's Scare Games, a series of challenges to prove their scaring abilities.

Throughout the challenges, Mike and Sulley learn the importance of teamwork, friendship, and embracing each other's strengths and weaknesses. Despite their differences, they form a strong bond and become close friends. The film explores themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and the value of friendship, all set within the colorful and creative world of monsters.

The cruddy trailer hardly filled me with hope for this belated prequel to Monsters, Inc., and the relatively laugh-free first thirty minutes did little to change my mind; however, once Mike and Sully and their Oozma Kappa fraternity brothers enter the Scare Games, the film really picks up and the laughs start to come thick and fast. By the time the end credits were rolling, Monsters University had given me lots of giggles and even a few genuine belly laughs and I'd completely altered my opinion: the oft-used 'under-dogs do good' plot may not be as fresh as the original, but overall I reckon the film is well worth watching.

Some of the best moments are clever one-liners and subtle fleeting visual gags which could go unseen, or over the head of younger viewers, but that gives the film repeat value; I hope to catch even more funny stuff the second time around after I proudly add the 3D to my Pixar collection.
