------------- THIS IS NOT the previously existing poor anaglyph 3D version from Japan -------------

In 1983, another 80s 3D film in the typical style came to the cinema with “Spacehunter”. This set new standards at the time and brought science fiction in 3D to cinema in the 80s for the first time, after almost exclusively horror and mystery films. The great success of "Spacehunter" was soon followed by other science fiction films in 3D such as "Metalstorm".
Later, there was no further official 3D release of Spacehunter. The 3D cinema reel is considered lost. So to date, the pirated 3D version of the 3D cinema release on VHS in Japan (anaglyphic, baked-in subtitles) was the only existing version in the world. I saw the film in 3D in the cinema and had almost given up hope that there would ever be a 3D release on Blu-ray. Extreme popouts were used in the 80s. Although they had a WOW effect, they were sometimes so exaggerated that they seemed unrealistic. JFC has lovingly taken care of this science fiction classic, which was originally produced in 3D. He captured the atmosphere created at the time fantastically and interpreted it realistically. His choreography resulted in a very beautiful 3D that honors the 3D of the 80s and is adapted to today's requirements. Impressive depths and great popouts were woven into the plot. Everything is consistent.
It was my heart's desire to experience this film again in 3D. And I have to tell you that JFC has set a milestone in interpretation and implementation. Despite good and clean mechanical digital processing by the industry, there is no optimal master on Blu-ray. Extremely much film grain, faded and partially washed out colors and a lack of contrast made this implementation even more difficult. But JFC didn't just breathe new life into this film in 3D. He also did a fantastic job of preparing and restoring most of the old colors from the original theatrical release. It's an impressive result. Due to the fundamentally different film technology and the sometimes suboptimal source material, it is difficult to convert older films cleanly into 3D. It's all the more impressive that JFC manages to do something that even big studios fail at. He has a very sensitive feeling for the correct interpretation of scenes and thus practically involves the viewer into the story. This is an extraordinary gift. If there had been someone in the past who could present 3D not just as an end in itself, more as a part of the film, like JFC does... It would still be a staple of home theater releases today. My friend, I am eternally grateful to you for giving us, and especially me, such a Christmas present. Watch "Spacehunter" in fantastic, realistic 3D like you've never experienced this film before. Welcome to this "Adventure in the Forbidden Zone"
