Review 3D Movie

"This one was so so incredible, it easily became my #1 favorite conversion of jfc probably even including studio releases which I own over 200 of... I have watched quite a few of these now and hands down this one was masterfully done GREAT job man!"

"... JFC has demonstrated once again his mastery, not only on technology but mainly with knowledge about how our brains work. I am not commenting about the general level of the conversion, we all already know the exceptional level JFC's conversions achieve, and this one excels technically, but how could only one man make such a good conversions in with such small deadlines? You will be astonished by some shots...."

"... I would truly think of not shooting in 3D underwater any more and hiring JFC to convert 2D shots (which are much easier to shot and edit) instead ;-)..."

"...Don't even dare to watch this movie in 2D now that there is a JFC conversion available. Now I don't care about having missed it in theaters..."

This is a great conversion and one of JFC's best imo. Thank you sir for keeping 3d alive! The picture quality is great for the size, though I could always hope for higher bitrate. I barely miss not having the studio version on blu-ray 3d, and that would just be for the tiny extra in PQ and to compare the conversion-because I am really not sure which I liked better! JFC pushes some scenes more I believe which I love, but of course there is not quite the refinement with him just being one person with so little time/funds.

IMHO this is not the place to discuss about bitrate on a movie *** you have not watched yet ***. You are kindly invited to participate on that kind of discussion in the telegram channel.

This is a place to review the conversion.

Hi, now that we've had a bit of an exchange and I know your reason for asking for a higher bit rate, I can tell you that JFC tries very hard to use the optimal size possible. For better results It's easier to work on 4K, but the finished work is then implemented in Blu-ray resolution. Anything else would only be usable by a few people here. I can't say whether it might be possible to have the 3D implementations that were edited with a 4K master in a higher resolution here in the 4K area, that would have to be discussed with the admin. Yesterday I checked my Blu-ray of Little Mermaid and after removing all other languages except English DTS HD-MA 7.1, there was only just under 31 GB of data left for the pure film including DTS Track. I assume that the soundtracks in the English and German versions are significantly lower than on the Blu-ray itself. Probably more like AC3 5.1 DD or a maximum of 6.1. Which once again significantly reduces the volume of data. I think it is unlikely that there will be strong compression compared to the original Blu-ray. Please do not judge too quickly based on the specified data size. This may spoil the enjoyment of such great releases for others. Watching the ISO on my projector 100" Size was very good and the quality on my TV 60" Size was also optimal. I can't compare it to an upscale on a 110" though. This is near by 4x bigger picture than my TV is. If you like, leave a comment on Little Mermaid once you've seen it yourself. I think you'll like it.

Sounds good Edgar. Normal 1080p Blu-ray 3d is the highest quality I use, and like I said there were a few where I could tell were that quality. Many with lower bitrates seem to have a little crushed blacks, muted colors and not quite as sharp eg Barbie and Mary Poppins.

I completely understand if JFC has to use lower file sizes to appeal to the majority, but figured how could we be sure what the majority wants if most don't let their preference be known? Mine would be normal 1080p iso, just with as high a bit-rate as possible. Though if 4k 3d releases were made available, I might be tempted to do what I can to make those work lol!

Sounds great! Have you watched The Flash, Across The Spiderverse, and TMNT Mutant Mayhem? Those are a few of my favorite JFC conversions.

I've seen the flash and spiderverse and they are in my top ten for sure. The tmnt movie itself I just didn't care for the other tmnt movies are much better in my opinion

TMNT certainly wasn't one of my favorite movies, but it was a stand-out JFC conversion IMO.

Thank you very much for the conversion. I saw this movie in 3D in the theater and I wanted to have it.
    I have two questions.
Does anyone know how I can add subtitles in 3D and in Spanish?
I read a lot of comments about 3D projectors and I want to buy one. Any recommendation?

Newer Awol 3500 or Nexigo Aurora Pro projectors are good if you want Ultra Short Throw. BenQ LED for normal to short throw like 4550i or 3000i. Used lamp BenQ's or Optomas for cheapest. Epson 5040/5050 pretty good too. Lots of brightness and contrast, but there can be a little crosstalk here and there because these are 3lcd. All the former projectors are DLP which is usually suggested for the best 3d.

2D Spanish subtitles in srt format can be downloaded at Subscene.com. Then use 3D-Subtitler to make a 3D SBS or OU subtitle file in VobSub idx/sub format. Next, add the subs to the mkv file using MKVToolNix GUI. As a final step, you may want to burn the subs into the video file using HandBrake.

I was not lucky enough to watch this movie in a theater. And I have to admit that even being a fan of JFC I was a bit scared about this conversion provided that there are so many elements in some scenes that it could be a nightmare to adjust the depth of everything without a titanic effort. But JFC has demonstrated once again his mastery, not only on technology but mainly with knowledge about how our brains work. I am not commenting about the general level of the conversion, we all already know the exceptional level JFC's conversions achieve, and this one excels technically, but how could only one man make such a good conversions in with such small deadlines? You will be astonished by some shots like the final one of "Under the Sea" song performance, it is awesome, incredible. This song performance was a tough test to overcome. JFC is a magician playing with our perceptions. He can do whatever he wants provided he devotes enough time to it but when limited in time (we are comparing one man to the whole Disney's muscle), he knows exactly where to put big efforts and where to calculate the dosis. The way he's dealt with depth in this movie reminds me the way compression algorithms work: they put a lot of info in what our brain most perceive and less info in what our brains don't perceive or can fill themselves. JFC did that here. He's leveraged the depth spectrum to cause astonishment in the viewer when necessary, creating wow effects in key shots and letting our brains to fill the gap in intermediate ones when the action is fast. The result is optimal.

And that for the fantasy shots. If we just think of more realistic shots, as a diver and amateur underwater 3D video and photographer, JFC nailed it again with realism. I would truly think of not shooting in 3D underwater any more and hiring JFC to convert 2D shots (which are much easier to shot and edit) instead ;-).

Don't even dare to watch this movie in 2D now that there is a JFC conversion available. Now I don't care about having missed it in theaters.

I'm glad to see a conversion done in reading the great reviews of JFC's work. I do find it a shame that Disney put all the effort to making it a 3D film for theaters, but didn't release in 3D blu-ray.
