Two unlikely cousins, David and Benji, travel to Poland, the homeland of their recently deceased grandmother, to better understand her life and learn more about their own Jewish roots. There, they take part in a guided tour of historically significant Jewish memorials. The tour gives them the opportunity to process their grief over the loss of their beloved grandmother. The sometimes very different motivations of the other participants and their ways of dealing with their experiences on the tour also help them redefine themselves. Essentially, it is an interesting film about an important topic that many would rather like to ignore or forget, but which will always remain part of the dark side of world history. Unfortunately, somewhat unspectacular and dryly handled, the film wastes much of its potential to convey the gruesome history of the early 20th century to a new generation of moviegoers. Aside from the film itself, outstanding work was done in the 3D area. The largely tranquil film offers optimal space for enormous depth and a great sense of space. Unfortunately, the 3D work fails to make the film something special. I enjoyed immersing myself once again in the depths of the third dimension, but I will limit it to a one time viewing because I personally found the overall experience a bit lacking in recognition and ambition. Nevertheless, thank you for the great work on this thematically difficult film.
