The outsider girl Katie Mitchell loves to make movies — or rather, strange short films, where her stupid pug Monchi "plays" a tough cop from real militants. The retrograde father Rick does not really understand her hobbies, and the good-natured mother Linda does not support her too much. Only the younger brother Aaron, obsessed with dinosaurs, is ready to lend his little shoulder to his sister. So when Katie successfully passes the exams for film school, she is doubly glad — both that she has found her vocation, and that she will soon move out from her parents.

The plans, however, are not destined to come true: Rick, unsuccessfully trying to establish relations with his daughter, hands over her plane tickets and offers to go to film school by car across the country — they say, he wants to make the last family trip. But that's only half the trouble. While the Mitchells are traveling to Los Angeles, innovative robots with artificial intelligence are taking over America. The trip is dramatically complicated.
