The Sandlot 3D 1993 follows Scotty Smalls a boy who moves to a new neighborhood in the summer of 1962 and struggles to make friends . He meets a group of baseball-loving kids led by the confident Benny Rodriguez who help him learn the game and accept him into their team . The group plays daily at the local sandlot until Smalls borrows his stepfather's prized baseball signed by Babe Ruth and accidentally hits it over the fence into a yard guarded by a legendary monstrous dog named The Beast . The boys spend the summer devising increasingly elaborate schemes to retrieve the ball including attempting to disguise themselves as a dog catcher . The story follows their adventures as they face the Beast overcome their fears and navigate childhood rivalries with a wealthier team . The film culminates in Benny retrieving the ball and the boys realizing their summer together defined their youth .
