Mont Blanc, Italy-France. Part I VR 360
Beginning on the French Mediterranean coast near Nice and stretching through Switzerland, Italy, the former Yugoslavia, Germany and Austria, the Alps are Europe's largest and most famous mountain range. At the center of the Alps is Mount Mont Blanc, which is both a separate peak and part of a mountain range about 50 kilometers long. Officially, the height of Mont Blanc is 4810 meters, but this value is not stable. Between 2003 and 2007, the height of the mountain increased by 55 centimeters, and then two years later decreased by the same amount. The latest measurements made by French scientists in 2015 recorded a height of 4808 meters above sea level. Such fluctuations are due to the movement of rocks and the melting of ice. Despite these changes, Mont Blanc remains the highest point in Europe. However, this status can be challenged: the famous Elbrus, whose height is 5642 meters, is located on the border between Europe and Asia. If Elbrus is considered part of Asia, then Mont Blanc will indeed be the highest peak in Europe. But if Elbrus is considered part of Europe, Mont Blanc will take the second place.
