Sahara Desert, Algeria VR 360
When we talk about deserts, we often imagine vast expanses of sand under the blazing sun. However, this is not quite true: the largest desert in the world is a very cold place covered with snow - the Antarctic Desert, with an area of 14 million square kilometers. The second largest is the hot Sahara, located in Africa, with an area of 9 million square kilometers. The Sahara covers 30% of Africa and stretches across many countries. At first glance the terrain may seem monotonous, but in fact its landscape is full of picturesque details. The name “Sahara” comes from the ancient Arabic word “sahra”, which translates as “red-brown”. The desert landscape includes plateaus, highlands, valleys and dunes that have shades of these colors. The sand massifs are so vast that Arabic has a special term for them, “erg”, which means “sea of dunes”.
