Windmills of Holland. Part II VR 360
Windmills were invented a long time ago and for a long time remained the only mechanism used by mankind. In the 19th century, they began to be replaced by steam engines, which happened in many countries, with the exception of Holland. Today, water levels are controlled automatically with modern technology and pumping stations, but until then, every village had its own windmill. In those days Holland was called “the country of 10,000 windmills”. Today the number has been reduced to 1,000, but that is still more than any other country. Although windmills no longer function as originally intended, they are still an important part of the culture. On the second Saturday in May, the Netherlands hosts National Mill Day, when more than 600 windmills open their doors to the public and millers demonstrate their skills. And we don't have to wait until that day to learn more about Holland's fascinating history - just open our video and embark on a fascinating journey.
