Tokyo at night, Japan VR 360
In the 12th century, a fort was erected on the southeastern part of Honshu Island, which later evolved into a castle. By the 18th century, this castle became the basis for one of the largest cities on the planet - Tokyo, now the capital of Japan. The city officially lost its status in 1943, when it merged with Tokyo Prefecture. As a result, the territory of the city was divided into 23 special parish zones, and now the metropolis of Tokyo includes 62 administrative units, including several islands. Tokyo's total population exceeds 13 million, with about 9 million of them concentrated in the 23 historic districts. Tokyo suffered the devastating effects of the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and also suffered significant losses during World War II. Nevertheless, the city has preserved some historical monuments. The fusion of ancient and modern architectural masterpieces makes Tokyo one of the most fascinating metropolises in the world.
