Diving with spotted seals. Sea of Japan, Russia VR 360
The world's oceans are home to many species of animals, including pinnipeds. Whether you're looking at a long-eared seal, a sea lion or a northern fur seal, it can be difficult to determine which species you're looking at. The walrus, however, stands out with its impressive tusks. With the other pinnipeds the situation is more confusing, and their names are often perplexing. In this review, we will talk about the spotted seal, a graceful predator living in the Sea of Japan. It should be noted that the Baikal, Ladoga and other seals are different species of seals, which will also be discussed in the AirPano video. The spotted seal, or larga seal, received its English name due to the characteristic dark spots on the body. Adults of this species reach a length of 180 cm and can weigh about 100 kg, which corresponds to the average parameters of long-eared seals. During the summer months, spotted seals prefer to spend time in the water, coming ashore only to rest on sandbanks. With the onset of cold weather, spotted seals begin their breeding season and head for the ice floes or shores. This distinguishes them from other seal species, such as ringed seals, which also come ashore to breed.
