Lucerne, Switzerland. Part I VR 360
The ancient city of Lucerne epitomizes all stereotypes about Switzerland. It is located on the rocky shore of a picturesque lake and at the foot of the Alps, which provides stunning views of majestic snow-capped peaks with picturesque slopes. The narrow streets, typical of Swiss cities, are full of neatly decorated houses and ancient cathedrals. The town's name translates as “illuminating” and is linked to a local legend. This land has been inhabited since Roman times, but information about those settlements is scarce. According to legend, one night an angel with a lantern appeared to the first inhabitants, showing them a place to build a chapel, which later became the center of modern Lucerne. This event is believed to have occurred in the 8th century, although this date may only indicate when the first chapel was built near Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee).
