Colourful mountains of the Zhangye Danxia Geopark, China VR 360

In China, there is a unique term for a specific landform - Danxia. It encompasses various landscapes consisting of red sandstone with brightly colored and steep cliffs. Such areas can be found in several parts of the country, and there is a national geopark with the same name near the city of Zhangye. According to the media, this geopark is considered one of the most scenic in China. The formation of this landscape is due to certain geological processes, climatic conditions and the passage of time. About 80 million years ago, there was a lake in the area, which dried up over time, leaving behind deposits of sandstone and other minerals. Then, under the influence of tectonic plates, rock formations were formed here, which were subsequently affected by wind, water and erosion.
