The equator, uninhabited islands, and traveling the ocean by boat... This is not just a plot for a pirate story, but the outline of our expedition. Speaking of piracy, it's worth mentioning that they occur here too. The Raja Ampat Archipelago, as the advertising poster claims, is “the last paradise on Earth”. Rocky mountains framed by tropical jungles rise above emerald waters, creating a typical picture of paradise. However, as is often the case, these protected islands are not easy to reach. It took us two flights from Jakarta to reach Sorong, and then we boarded a ferry that took us to Waigeo, the largest island in the Raja Ampat archipelago. Thus began our adventure....
