Christopher Columbus is a famous explorer who is considered the discoverer of America. However, he also discovered many other lands for Europeans. Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Lesser Antilles, and the Bahamas are just some of his achievements. In 1494, during Columbus's second expedition, another archipelago was discovered in the Caribbean Sea. It is located 97 kilometers south of the central coast of Cuba. The archipelago was named Jardines de la Reina, which means "Gardens of the Queen" in honor of the Queen of Spain. The archipelago consists of about thirty ordinary islands, on which almost no one lives. The total area of the islands is 175 square kilometers, and the population is only 12 people. There are also numerous sandbanks that form small islands on the tops of coral reefs.
