Planes started falling from the sky, marauders and bandits seized cities, and governmental structures ceased to exist.

The main character is John Doe, a brave courier whose job involves transporting goods between different cities. Besides dedication to his vehicle, John remembers nothing about his past and only dreams of settling down in one of the cities. The story begins when the settlement's mayor offers John a deal: he must deliver a dangerous cargo and, in return, receive accommodation in a safe zone. Thus begins the hero's long and perilous journey.

Unlike the games, where the emphasis was on a survival tournament, the 3D series Twisted Metal employs a different concept. It's a road movie where characters travel across the country, encountering new obstacles and dangers in each episode.

The plot of the first season has a self-contained structure, where all plotlines lead to a logical conclusion. Nevertheless, in the final five minutes, the creators provide a hint at a potential continuation.
