Mortal Kombat 3D: The fate of humanity depends on this battle

The Mortal Kombat film franchise was rebooted in 2021, when Warner Bros. entrusted Simon McQuoid with the director's chair. The $55 million budget paid off, and in 2026, a sequel, Mortal Kombat II, was released, finally featuring Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban, and giving audiences the chance to experience the iconic tournament. The creators of the 2021 film intentionally omitted the tournament from the plot to further explore the characters' backstories. Both films are generously strewn with Easter eggs, from sound effects to phrases familiar to every gamer since 1992. Now the series is confidently moving toward a third installment, proving that the iconic fighting game can live on beyond consoles.
